Our District of Learning Youth Ambassadors are helping to:

  • Identify learning opportunities across Greater DC and expanding our partner network;

  • Create learning Playlists and Digital Badges;

  • Connect other teens and young adults to the District of Learning online platform at lrng.org/dc;

  • Provide leadership and advice to shape the future of District of Learning; and

  • Represent District of Learning at meetings and community events.

Start-up funding for the initiative has been provided by The Kimsey Foundation—supporting an initial cohort of youth ambassadors serving at four D.C. high schools: Banneker, Wilson, Coolidge, and Friendship Collegiate. We have strong demand to expand and many District of Learning partners have expressed the desire to host Youth Ambassadors as soon as we secure additional funding,

Our Youth Ambassadors are peer leaders in extracurricular activities, music, or style. They receive valuable benefits with their service, including:

  • An iPad mini with a cellular data plan;

  • Credit for community service hours—a graduation requirement for DC high schools;

  • Special event invitations, including free tickets to concerts and sporting events;

  • District of Learning clothing and other logo items;

  • Training and leadership development opportunities to boost future college and career prospects; and

  • Connections to internships and job opportunities.
